Faruk, a folk performer Faruk lives in the Hawar (wetland) region of Sylhet in Bangladesh. In this region the co-existence of different belief was always peaceful. He sings and dances with ancient music and song what he learnt from his guru (Teacher) time to time.

Faruk is a liberal person. Being a Muslim by born, he loves to perform mythological poetry ‘Mansha Mongol’, which named as ‘Padma Purana’ in Bangladesh. Which is not accepted by conservative Islamic society in Bangladesh. He sings and performs wherever he is invited for healing through his performance. But gradually that way of living doesn’t support Faruk for livelihood. To survive with changing economy, recently he took loan from NGO and purchase a rice threshing machine, which portraying that Faruk is changing his profession for survival. But he loves to live as a performer with his belief of humanity.

His latest crisis is his performance. Now mainstream religious preaching spreads hatred towards local liberal culture, that doesn’t allow his secular attitude as well as his performance of Padma Purana. They already damaged his house three times and beat him up. Faruk even can’t practice at home, can’t perform in his village because of neighbor’s restrictions. However, he goes other villages to perform whenever he gets calls. Sometimes, he got refusal even after getting the invitation from other villages.

This religious transformation doesn’t bring any changes in Faruk’s belief. He sings for peace and relief. He respects and belongs to all the community. To him it is root.

But Faruk is a rebel, he protests and continues. Faruk doesn’t want to leave his music and performance. But with the religious transformation of the society and economic changes can he keep it?
